For a child living in the developing world, poverty looms like a mountain: immense, impassable, immovable. When a child is sponsored, however, all of that changes. With a sponsor in their corner, obstacles can be overcome. Twenty-three One Child Matters' sponsors and team leaders set out to do that very thing for a child in need.
On September 19th, our climbers traveled to Kenya to meet their sponsored child and prepare to take on a challenge that was unequalled: climbing the highest freestanding mountain in the world at more 19,341 feet. You might think that standing on the summit of Kilimanjaro would be the highlight of the trip—but it was easily matched by the joy the climbers experienced when they met their sponsored child. Knowing that they were climbing for their sponsored child gave them the strength and courage that they needed during the most grueling days of the climb.
This incredible journey was captured on video so that everyone can experience a piece of the adventure. We are so proud of our climbers and so thankful for the blessing that they are to their child—a child who knows that someone is in their corner, ready to help them overcome the obstacles they face.
They’ve got hearts bigger than Kilimanjaro – meet our adventurers and the children whose lives will change because of their climb!
